Montezuma is a small town on the Wabash River in west central Parke County. Montezuma was an important port on the Wabash-Erie canal. Railroads took over the canal traffic but two major railroad lines intersected in Montezuma keeping it alive. Brick making was a major industry and because of the railroad line to Chicago, many buildings were constructed of Montezuma bricks after the Chicago fire. This recently abandoned seed farm chemical business simply went by the name of its owner which harkens back to the pre-corporate takeover of farming when, to do business, a man’s name and reputation was good enough advertising.
